چکیده

This paper discusses ongoing work to build an argumentation inquiry learning system, GAIL. The purpose of GAIL is to support students in constructing scientific arguments in an undergraduate genetics course in order to facilitate deeper learning and improve argumentation skill. Students can construct argument diagrams using a dragand-drop graphical user interface. The system constructs arguments on-the-fly to use as a knowledge source for evaluating the learners’ arguments and providing intelligent feedback.

Towards Formative Feedback on Student Arguments

This paper presents our ideas on generating formative feedback in the Genetics Argumentation Inquiry Learning (GAIL) system. GAIL will provide undergraduate biology students with tools for constructing Toulmin-style arguments on questions in genetics. Feedback will be based in part on the output of GAIL’s argument analyzer, which will compare learner arguments to automatically constructed exper...

The Applicability of the Gail Model in Iranian Population

Introduction: Gail model is one of the most important models for the evaluation of breast cancer risk between US white females. According to genetic diversity, there is a possibility of affecting the efficiency of the Gail model in risk assessment of breast cancer among Iranian populations. In this study, the Gail model efficiency in specifying the risk of breast cancer in Iranian population wa...

A generative framework for argumentation-based inquiry dialogues

My PhD focusses on argumentation-based communication between agents. I take, as a starting point, the argumentation system proposed by Garcı́a and Simari [22], which allows a single agent to reason about its beliefs. I define a novel dialogue system that allows two agents to use Garcı́a and Simari’s system to carry out inter-agent argumentation. I define two specific protocols for two different t...

Supporting collaborative inquiry during a biology field trip with mobile peer-to-peer tools for learning: a case study with K-12 learners

This study explores how collaborative inquiry learning can be supported with multiple scaffolding agents in a real-life field trip context. In practice, a mobile peer-to-peer messaging tool provided meta-cognitive and procedural support, and tutors and a nature guide provided more dynamic scaffolding in order to support argumentative discussions between groups of students during the co-creation...
